Frederick Street Bridge Replacement

GHD, on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), has completed the Detailed Design and Class Environmental Assessment (Project) to replace the Frederick Street Bridge over Highway 7/85, located in the City of Kitchener. The Project is part of the MTO’s commitment to advance the construction of the approved New Highway 7 from the City of Kitchener to the City of Guelph.

Engineering and field work for the remainder of New Highway 7 is ongoing. The remainder of New Highway 7 will be constructed in subsequent phases. Additional information on the New Highway 7 can be found at: www.newhighway7.ca. To view the DCR for the advanced clearing for the New Highway 7, please click here.

The Frederick Street Bridge Project consists of three main components:

  1. Relocation of Bell Canada and Rogers Cable Utilities

  2. Relocation of the Region of Waterloo Forcemain

  3. Replacement of the Frederick Street Bridge

The Project was completed in accordance with MTO’s Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities, 2000 (Class EA) as a Group ‘A’ project. As part of the Class EA, a Design and Construction Report (DCR) was prepared documenting the Project, and was made available for comment.

This website has been established to share information about the Project with those interested in learning more and to communicate with the Project Team, including asking questions, making enquiries, and/or submitting comments.

The Design and Construction Report (DCR) was available for comment in late 2023 and can be viewed by clicking here.
